Akor Adams sealed the win with a ruthless strike in the 75th minute.  This dominant performance secured Nigeria's spot in the quarter-finals, showcasing their impressive skills and teamwork. The Super Eagles' next challenge will be against the winner of Algeria vs. DR Congo.

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, is calling for the resignation of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, citing his alleged interference in the party's internal affairs. Basiru claims Wike, a non-APC member, is causing confusion within the party and leveraging his ministerial position to do so. "The honourable thing to do is to resign his appointment as Minister," Basiru stated.  Wike has been warned to steer clear of Rivers State politics, with Basiru accusing him of trying to destabilize the party in the state. The feud stems from Wike's support for President Bola Tinubu, which Basiru says doesn't automatically make him an APC member. Wike has hit back, labeling Rivers a "no-go area" for political interference.

Manchester United has parted ways with their head coach, Ruben Amorim, after just 14 months in charge. This decision comes following a 1-1 draw with Leeds United, which sparked tensions between Amorim and the club's leadership. Amorim had expressed frustration with the club's management, stating he was the "manager, not just the coach" and emphasizing his vision for the team.  Darren Fletcher, a former Manchester United player and current U-18 team head coach, has been appointed as the interim head coach. Fletcher will lead the team against Burnley on Wednesday. "Nicolas Maduro, the President of Venezuela, was arrested by US forces in a military operation in Caracas, Venezuela, on January 3, 2026. He was taken into custody and flown to the United States, where he faces federal charges, including narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, and possession of machine guns and destructive devices.  Maduro's wife, Cilia Flores, was also arrested and is facing charges alongside him. The US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, stated that Maduro and his wife will face the full force of American justice in a New York court.  The arrest has sparked mixed reactions globally, with some applauding the move and others condemning it as a violation of international law.  The German government has called for a political solution to the crisis in Venezuela. 

Yobe State Hisbah Board has implemented a ban on interactions between men and women in vehicles and public gatherings, aiming to promote moral values and uphold public decency in the state.  This move is part of efforts to regulate social interactions and enforce Sharia law in Yobe State . The ban likely targets mixed-gender gatherings and private conversations in public spaces, including vehicles, to curb perceived impropriety.
