JUST IN: Police file fresh cybercrime charges against activist Dele Farotimi in Ekiti.

The Nigeria Police Force has filed additional charges against prominent human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi. The latest filing, submitted on Friday to the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, includes 12 new counts under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act, 2015. The new charges reportedly aim to obstruct Farotimi’s bail application and prolong his detention. This development follows earlier charges filed by the police in collaboration with the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Aare Afe Babalola, over comments Farotimi made during an interview and press conferences. Among the accusations, Farotimi is alleged to have knowingly transmitted false information during an online interview on August 28, 2024, claiming that Afe Babalola “corrupted the judiciary.” Prosecutors argue that the statements were made with the intent to cause public unrest and bully or harass the senior lawyer. Pressure mounts on Afe Babalola to release activist after illegal arrest by police

Prominent Nigerian legal figure Afe Babalola is under growing global pressure to release human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi, who was arrested by Nigerian police in response to allegations made in his book  Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System . Farotimi’s detention has sparked widespread criticism from international rights organizations, diaspora groups, and writers, with many accusing Babalola of abusing his influence to suppress dissent. The case has also embroiled King’s College London, which hosts the Afe Babalola Centre for Transnational Education. Activists and advocacy groups are demanding the institution cancel its association with Babalola and return his £10 million donation. Court sacks MC Oluomo as NURTW President, affirms Baruwa.

The Abuja Division of the Appeal Court has sacked Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo from the position of the National President of the National Union of Roads Transport Workers, NURTW. The court also affirmed Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as the authentic President of NURTW. The court also affirmed the judgment of the Industrial Court delivered on the 11th of March 2024 in respect of Suit No. NICN/ABJ/263/2023. The court held that the appeal filed by Najeem Usman Yasin, Tajudeen Agbede and others challenging the decision of the Industrial Court that recognised Baruwa as President lacked merits and therefore dismissed it. In a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgement with Appeal No. CA/ABJ//CV/293/2024 delivered on Friday, by a three-member panel; Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi said Baruwa is the legally elected President of NURTW. NNPC, Oil Marketers finally Agrees on New Fuel Price, Begins loading.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has agreed to lower the ex-depot price of petrol to N955 per litre for the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN)  The development was confirmed by Abubakar Maigandi, President of IPMAN, following negotiation.  This decision will now pave the way for the resumption of fuel loading at depots across the country. that IPMAN and NNPC limited were at loggerheads over the ex-depot pricing of the Dangote refinery petrol, which was set at N1,010 in Lagos.  accused NNPC of increasing its prices to a rate higher than the rate purchased from the Dangote Refinery.
