The Nigerian Red Cross Society has expressed sorrow over the  flooding that struck Kpege-Mokwa in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State  in the early hours of Thursday, May 29, leaving at least 21 people dead, scores missing, and a community reeling in shock. Recent updates placed the death toll at over 100 with many still missing. In a statement released on Friday, the Red Cross described the development as heartbreaking. “Heavy rainfall began around 3am while many residents were asleep, resulting in significant loss of life and widespread distress,” the statement read. The Red Cross confirmed that 21 bodies have been recovered from the floodwaters, but warned that the toll could rise as search “Our volunteers are actively engaged on the ground, providing critical search and rescue assistance as well as first aid services to survivors,” the Red Cross said. This news is highly disturbing and appears to involve serious criminal activity, including kidnapping, murder, and the desecration of victims' remains.  According to the report, a popular native doctor in Umumba ndi-agu  village  Eziagu Enugu state, was caught by villagers after it was discovered that he was involved in kidnapping and burying a pregnant woman, her mother, and others alive in his house.  The soakaway pit in his house was reportedly filled with decomposing remains of the victims, indicating the severity of the crimes. This incident has likely caused great shock and outrage within the community and across social media platforms.
