The Anambra Union Berlin/Brandenburg has elected a new chairman with strong roots in Ihiala LGA.

Uzoma Raphael Asoanya-Ekwu Echefule Afunwaechetanna, who hails from Umueze, Amorka in Ihiala L.G.A, Anambra State, Nigeria, was declared winner of the union’s chairmanship election. He contested under the *Destiny and Wisdom* ticket.

1. The Election: Diaspora Politics in Germany  
The Anambra Union Berlin/Brandenburg is one of the most active Nigerian state unions in Germany. It serves Anambra indigenes across Berlin and Brandenburg, focusing on culture, welfare, and business networking.

This year’s chairmanship race was closely followed by members, with campaigns running across community meetings, WhatsApp groups, and town halls. The role is considered high-profile due to the union’s size and influence.

2. The Winner: From Umueze, Amorka to Berlin  
Uzoma Raphael Asoanya-Ekwu Echefule Afunwaechetanna’s victory brings an Ihiala indigene to the helm. His Umueze, Amorka community in Anambra State has a history of producing leaders active in diaspora affairs.

He ran on a platform of unity, transparency, and expanded programs for members, branded Destiny and Wisdom. The electoral committee confirmed his victory in line with the union’s constitution.

3. Mandate and Expectations.
The new chairman assumes office as diaspora unions take on greater roles in development and cultural preservation. Key areas on the table:

1. Member Welfare: Support for Anambra families navigating life in Germany.
2. Youth & Culture: Programs to connect younger generations to Igbo language and heritage.
3. Home Linkages: Partnerships on investment, skills transfer, and community projects in Anambra State.

4. Community Reaction
Members have called for unity following the competitive election. Supporters of Destiny and Wisdom described the outcome as “a mandate for inclusive leadership,” while other stakeholders urged collaboration for the good of Ndi Anambra in Berlin/Brandenburg.

The swearing-in of the new executive will be held at the union’s next general meeting, with the date to be announced by the electoral committee. Other elected officers will be unveiled alongside the chairman.

With this win, Umueze, Amorka, Ihiala now has a son leading one of the most prominent Anambra diaspora unions in Europe.
