Alisson Becker Leaves Liverpool After Eight Trophy-Laden Years Amid Juventus Move.
Liverpool have confirmed that goalkeeper Alisson Becker will leave Anfield this summer, ending an eight-year spell that saw the Brazilian become one of the defining figures of the club’s modern era.
The 33-year-old is set to join Juventus on a two-year contract with the option of a third, bringing to a close a tenure that delivered two Premier League titles, a Champions League, FA Cup, Club World Cup and 137 clean sheets in 332 appearances.
“Alisson informed us of his desire to embrace a new challenge and, with one year left on his contract, we have reluctantly agreed to his request,” Liverpool said Saturday. “Ali leaves as a Premier League and European champion, a leader, and forever a Red. We thank him for everything.”
Juventus have not officially announced the deal, but multiple reports in Italy and England state the Turin club have reached an agreement in principle and will pay a “significant fee” despite Alisson entering the final 12 months of his deal.
Alisson’s departure comes after a season disrupted by hamstring and knee injuries that limited him to 35 appearances in all competitions. He missed 10 Premier League matches in each of the previous two seasons and has not played more than 40 games in a campaign since 2022–23.
Liverpool signed Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in 2024 as a long-term successor, with the Georgian arriving at Anfield last summer. Caoimhin Kelleher was sold to Brentford in 2025, leaving Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman as the senior options.
Alisson had previously said he wanted to finish his career at boyhood club Internacional “at a high level,” fueling speculation his Anfield stay was winding down. In May, reports emerged that he had “warmed to embarking on a new chapter in Turin” and was open to reuniting with Luciano Spalletti.
The move represents a reversal from the club’s public stance two days ago. On May 30, Liverpool formally told Alisson they wanted him to stay and would block a sale. Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic reported the Reds did not want to lose “another experienced key part of the squad” after the exits of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate.
However, talkSPORT later claimed Alisson was “unhappy at the U-turn” after Juventus tabled a three-year offer. Sources close to the player said Liverpool ultimately agreed not to stand in his way if he pushed to leave, mirroring the understanding reached last summer when Saudi interest first emerged.
Captain Virgil van Dijk admitted the exit would hurt. “He’s very important for me as one of the leaders and, in my opinion, the best goalkeeper in the world,” Van Dijk said in April when rumors first surfaced. “It would definitely be a big blow and a miss”
Since joining from Roma in 2018, Alisson has kept 137 clean sheets for Liverpool, second only to Ederson’s 143 among Premier League players in that span. He was pivotal to the 2019–20 and 2024–25 title wins and made iconic contributions, including his stoppage-time headed goal against West Brom in 2021.
Juventus are expected to move on from Michele Di Gregorio to make room. Alisson would become the second Liverpool starter to depart this summer after Konate confirmed his free transfer exit Friday.
Mamardashvili, 24, is now set to become Liverpool’s No. 1 under incoming manager Andoni Iraola. The Georgian made 10 Premier League appearances last season, keeping two clean sheets. Woodman and youngsters Armin Pecsi and Kornel Misciur provide depth.
Liverpool triggered a one-year option in Alisson’s deal in March, but opted not to enforce it after late talks with the player.
Alisson leaves as the most decorated goalkeeper in Liverpool’s Premier League era. Beyond the trophies, he redefined the position at Anfield with his distribution, one-v-one dominance and calm leadership.
As he told reporters last year: “I want to return to Inter… at a high level. That’s what I have planned”. For now, that plan runs through Turin.
