Sergio Ramos Seals Sevilla Takeover, Set to Become New Owner of Boyhood Club

Sergio Ramos is coming home — not as a player this time, but as the new owner. The Real Madrid legend has reached an agreement to buy his boyhood club Sevilla FC in a deal worth around €450 million.

After months of negotiations, Ramos and his investment group Five Eleven Capital agreed terms with Sevilla’s majority shareholders on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The deal covers roughly 80% of the club’s shares.

The agreement was finalized following marathon meetings at the club offices, including a nine-hour session on Monday and a two-hour follow-up on Tuesday. The takeover is now pending final paperwork, notarization, and approval from LaLiga and Spain’s High Council for Sport. 187d113d

As part of the deal, the new owners will inject €80-100 million into the club to ease financial pressure and raise the salary cap for next season.

Ramos, 40, came through Sevilla’s academy and made his senior debut in 2002 before moving to Real Madrid in 2005. He returned for a final season as a player in 2023/24. cab3

Now he’s set to replace the del Nido family in the boardroom for the first time in the 21st century. Reports suggest Ramos will take an active leadership role rather than just being a figurehead. 7b031b32

Sevilla are in a delicate spot both on and off the pitch. The club is 13th in LaLiga with three games left, just three points above the relegation zone. Off the pitch, losses over the last three seasons hit €155 million, with debt estimated between €70m and €180m. 187d71b8

The takeover includes a relegation clause, meaning the deal will only be finalized after the season ends, regardless of whether Sevilla stay up.

If approved, Ramos would have to retire from playing or continue his career outside Spain, as LaLiga rules prevent active players from owning a stake in a club in the same league. He left Mexican club Monterrey in December 2025 and hasn’t officially retired yet.

Fans have been calling for boardroom change for years, and Ramos’ return has sparked excitement. Former sporting director Monchi has also backed the project.

From academy kid to Champions League winner to club owner — Sergio Ramos’ Sevilla story is far from over.
