Crystal Palace Lifts the Conference Cup After Dramatic Win Over Real Vallecano.

Crystal Palace are European champions. Jean-Philippe Mateta’s second-half goal gave the Eagles a 1-0 win over Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, securing the club’s first major European trophy in the UEFA Conference League final at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig.

The game was tight and tense, with both sides struggling to create clear chances in the first half. Palace broke through in the 51st minute. Adam Wharton drove forward and fired from the edge of the box. Rayo goalkeeper Augusto Batalla could only parry the shot, and Mateta reacted fastest to knock in the rebound from close range.

Rayo pushed for an equalizer. Yeremy Pino struck both posts with a free kick shortly after Mateta’s goal, and Batalla later denied Mateta a second with a fine save. But Palace’s defense held firm. Dean Henderson made key saves, and the back line of Andersen, Guéhi, and Richards saw out the final minutes under heavy pressure.

The 1-0 victory caps a fairytale run for Oliver Glasner’s side. Palace navigated the group stage and knockout rounds, including a dramatic semi-final, to reach their first European final.

For a club that was in administration in 2010, lifting a European trophy is a historic turnaround. The win also books Palace a spot in next season’s UEFA Europa League.

The final also marked Oliver Glasner’s last game as Palace manager. He leaves South London having delivered the FA Cup in 2025 and now the Conference League in 2026.

Captain Marc Guéhi lifted the trophy as red and blue flares filled the Leipzig night. For the 8,000 Palace fans who made the trip, and thousands more back in Croydon, it’s a moment that will define a generation.

Final Score: Crystal Palace 1-0 Rayo Vallecano
