How Elon Musk’s ‘APC’ Tweet Triggered Political Debate in Nigeria.

Lagos, Nigeria — A single post from tech billionaire Elon Musk sent Nigerian social media into a frenzy on Sunday, April 12, 2026, after users misread his reference to “APC” as a nod to the country’s ruling party.

Musk, CEO of Tesla, posted on X while describing the Tesla Cybertruck:

Globally, the post was about vehicle design — “APC” meaning _Armoured Personnel Carrier_, a term often used for the Cybertruck’s military-style build. But in Nigeria, “APC” instantly means _All Progressives Congress_, the party of President Bola Tinubu.

The comment section exploded with Nigerians assuming Musk was weighing in on politics:
