Gunmen Kill Driver, Abduct Passengers in GUO Bus Attack on Benin–Ore Expressway.

Suspected kidnappers ambushed a GUO Transport bus along the Benin–Ore axis of the Lagos expressway on Sunday, killing the driver and abducting several passengers, police have confirmed.

The commercial bus was traveling from Lagos toward the eastern part of the country on April 19 when it came under heavy gunfire near Iguobazuwa, forcing it to a stop. Eyewitnesses said the driver was shot dead at the scene while armed men dragged passengers into the surrounding bush.

A video circulating online showed the bullet-riddled bus and narrators alleging the attackers opened fire before whisking victims away. The number of abducted passengers has not yet been disclosed.

Edo State Police spokesperson ASP Eno Ikoedem confirmed the incident, stating it occurred within the Iguobazuwa Police Division. “The Commissioner of Police has directed adjoining divisions to join in bush-combing efforts to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators,” she said.

Operations are ongoing to improve safety along the highway, which has seen repeated attacks on commercial vehicles in recent months. 

This comes a day after Edo police announced the rescue of 13 passengers kidnapped on the same Benin-Ore Expressway near Ekhiadolor. In that case, the driver was shot but survived and all abducted victims were later freed following a manhunt involving drones and tactical teams.

GUO Transport has not yet issued a statement on Sunday’s attack. The company previously debunked social media claims that it operates “bulletproof buses,” clarifying its fleet consists of standard factory-built vehicles.

Authorities are urging travelers to exercise caution and report suspicious movement along the corridor. Investigations continue.
