The resignation comes amid impeachment proceedings initiated by the Kano State House of Assembly over allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust.

Gwarzo's decision is seen as an act of statesmanship, aimed at easing political tension and promoting effective governance. He maintains his innocence and believes his records in office reflect his integrity and commitment to the people. After resigning, Gwarzo plans to focus on political activities within the Kwankwasiyya Movement, particularly in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
