South Africa Replaces Morocco as Host of 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations
South Africa is set to host the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after Morocco withdrew as hosts. The announcement was made by South Africa's Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Peace Mabe, who stated that the country has the necessary infrastructure to support the tournament.
The decision comes as a surprise, with Morocco citing unspecified reasons for their withdrawal. The tournament is scheduled to run from March 17 to April 3, 2026, but the dates may be pushed back to allow South Africa time to prepare.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has not officially confirmed the change, and Morocco's women's team is still expected to participate in the tournament.
