"IGP Kayode Egbetokun Resigns: Family Issues Cited, Tunji Disu Takes Over as Acting IGP.

Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, has resigned from office, citing pressing family considerations. President Bola Tinubu accepted his resignation and appointed Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector-General of Police, effective immediately.

Egbetokun, who was appointed in June 2023, had his tenure extended beyond the mandatory retirement age of 60, sparking controversy and criticism from civil society groups and legal experts. His resignation comes amid ongoing security challenges in Nigeria, and Disu's experience and leadership capacity are expected to provide steady direction for the police force.
