US Launches Airstrikes on ISIS in Northwest Nigeria,
The US launched airstrikes against ISIS militants in northwest Nigeria, targeting camps in Sokoto state, according to President Donald Trump. The operation was carried out at the request of Nigerian authorities, with the goal of disrupting ISIS operations and protecting civilians, particularly Christians, who've been targeted by the group.
Trump stated that the strike was a response to ISIS' "vicious killing" of Christians, while Nigeria's government emphasized that extremist groups target both Muslims and Christians. The US Africa Command confirmed the strike, saying it killed multiple ISIS militants.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth thanked Nigeria for its cooperation, hinting at further action: "More to come... Grateful for Nigerian government support & cooperation".
