FIFA Confirms DR Congo Eligibility, Shuts Down Protest Rumors

The speculation surrounding DR Congo's potential disqualification from the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been put to rest by FIFA. According to a senior FIFA official, no protest or official complaint has been filed regarding DR Congo's eligibility to participate in the World Cup playoff match against Nigeria.

Wan-Bissaka's eligibility was questioned due to his previous appearances for England's youth teams, but FIFA granted him approval to switch international allegiance in August 2025. He made his senior debut for DR Congo in a World Cup qualifier against South Sudan on September 5, 2025.

A senior FIFA official confirmed that Wan-Bissaka's eligibility was settled months before the playoff match, and there is no basis for any challenge to his involvement. The NFF Secretary General declined to comment on the possibility of filing a protest.
