"BREAKING: Violence Erupts in Warri as Itsekiri and Urhobo Youths Clash"

Tension gripped Warri, Delta State, on Saturday, August 23, 2025, as Itsekiri and Urhobo youths clashed violently at Okere Roundabout, leaving several people injured. The conflict began when Itsekiri youths were blocked from passing through the Agbassa area by Urhobo youths while celebrating the 4th coronation anniversary of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III .

Cause of the Clash:* The dispute escalated into violence when Itsekiri youths chanted "we own Warri," sparking outrage among the Urhobo group.
- *Injuries and Damage:* Several individuals sustained gunshot wounds and machete cuts, with some videos showing damaged vehicles and debris littering the road.
- *Police Response:* Security operatives deployed to the scene fired tear gas to disperse the warring youths, while the police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident but denied reports of deaths.

Underlying Issues:* The clash highlights longstanding ethnic tensions and territorial disputes in Warri, with both groups having historical claims to the land.

 Local leaders, including Barr Duncan Afahokor, have urged individuals to embrace peace and dialogue to resolve the conflict.
