Enyimba is not a football club - Brown Ideye slams poor treatment for players.
Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has publicly slammed Enyimba FC, a prominent Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) club, over its treatment of players. Ideye revealed that during the 2024-2025 season, players received a meager daily allowance of ₦7,000 for meals while on away matches, which he described as "shameful" and "unbelievable". This amount barely covers a single decent meal in some parts of Aba, let alone breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
*Key Issues with Enyimba's Player Welfare:*
- *Inadequate Daily Allowance*: Players receive ₦7,000-₦8,000 per day for meals during away matches, which is often paid directly to the team captain for distribution.
- *Irregular Match Bonuses*: Match bonuses range from ₦10,000 to ₦30,000 or more per match, but are only paid at the end of the season, rather than after each game or monthly.
- *Poor Accommodation*: Instead of lodging players in decent hotels, the club often provides inadequate accommodation, forcing players to fend for themselves on match days.
- *Disregard for Player Welfare*: Ideye criticized the club's lack of investment in player welfare, highlighting the stark contrast between Enyimba's treatment of players and the standards he experienced in European leagues.¹ ² ³
Ideye's revelations have sparked outrage among fans and football stakeholders, with many calling for improved player welfare and financial transparency in the NPFL. Enyimba FC has yet to officially respond to these allegations.
