Benue Killings: Pope Leo's Heartfelt Prayer for Nigeria's Peace"

Pope Leo has offered prayers for the victims of the recent massacre in Benue State, Nigeria. Approximately 200 people were killed in an attack on rural communities.

Before the Sunday Angelus prayer, the Pope described the violence as 'particularly devastating,' emphasizing that most victims were internally displaced persons at a local Catholic mission in Yelwata. He stated: 'On the night of the 13th/14th June, in Yelwata, a terrible massacre occurred where around 200 people were killed with extreme cruelty, most being internally displaced persons hosted by the local Catholic mission.'

The Pope expressed deep concern for Nigeria and prayed for peace and security, highlighting the vulnerability of rural Christian communities in Benue.

The Pope said,” I pray that security, justice, and peace will prevail in Nigeria, a beloved country so affected by various forms of violence.
