The Super Eagles are now 33 spots ahead of their West African rivals in the latest FIFA ranking after defeating them 2-1 in last month’s international friendly.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles dropped two places in the latest FIFA ranking, but the three-time African champions are still far ahead of their West African rivals Ghana.

Super Eagles ahead of Ghana but drop two spots in FIFA ranking

The Super Eagles were ranked 28th in the world in the February ranking but dropped to 30th in the ranking released on April 4, 2024, following the team’s mixed results in last month’s international break.

Nonetheless, the three-time African champions are still far ahead of Ghana, who dropped one spot to 68th in the world.

Nigeria remain third as Argentina stay top

The Super Eagles are also ahead of Erling Haaland’s Norway (47th), Mohamed Salah’s Egypt (37th) and co-host of the next World Cup Canada (49th).

Also, despite dropping two spots, Nigeria remain third on the African continent behind Morocco (13th) and Senegal (17th).

Egypt (37th), Cote d’Ivoire (38th) and Tunisia (41st) round up the rest of the top five on the African continent.

Meanwhile, world champions Argentina remain the number one ranked nation, followed by France, Belgium, England and Brazil.

Portugal, The Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Croatia round up the rest of the global top ten. The next FIFA ranking update will be released after June’s international break.
