14 buildings affected as fire razes Lagos market — second time in three weeks

About 14 buildings were affected on Tuesday by a fire outbreak on Dosumu Idumota street in Lagos Island.

Margaret Adeseye, director of Lagos state Fire and Rescue Service, said in a statement that two structures collapsed completely while two others partially caved in.

“The cause was traced to refuelling a generator among others, with fuel storage in kegs at the penthouse of a three-building complex housing a printing shop with chemical contents,” the statement reads.

Swift firefighting operations by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service which has now moved to damping down strategy, mitigating all threats and ensuring public safety.

Enumeration of shops and goods lost are ongoing, and preventive measures will be enforced.”

Adeseye said all the state’s emergency responders, including national and private partners, were collaborating at the scene.

Earlier, Olufemi Oke-Osayintolu, permanent secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said no life was lost in the fire outbreak.
