Tinubu seems not to understand why people are protesting – Anambra residents.

Some residents of Umuahia, capital of Anambra, on Sunday, urged President Bola Tinubu, to address the problem of hunger in the country to put an immediate end to the ongoing nationwide protest. The people made the request in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria, describing the widespread hunger as the root cause of the protest. They spoke against the backdrop of Sunday’s nationwide broadcast by the president. In the broadcast, he ruled out the chances of reversing the policy on fuel subsidy removal, despite the agitation by the #EndBadGovernanceIn Nigeria protesters. A resident, Mr Onyebuchi Irunna, argued that the protest was about the pervasive poverty in the country which, he said, was worsened by the high cost of living. A small group of #EndBadGovernance protesters gathered around the Gani Fawehinmi Park on Sunday morning, chanting solidarity songs, shortly after President Bola Tinubu’s address to the nation. The protesters said the President has not addressed core issues raised by them despite touching on efforts by his administration. Policemen and other security agencies were still on the ground at the park. The police barred the protesters from holding a procession beyond the designated ground at Gani Fawehinmi Park, Ojota. The protesters complied without argument and returned to the designated point. As of the time of filing this report, there are policemen than protesters in Ojota area of Lagos.

Rioters attack hotels used to house asylum seekers amid worst UK disorder in years.

Rioters set fire and broke into hotels used to shelter asylum seekers in northern England on Sunday, as the country grapples with the worst social unrest it has seen in years. The violence was triggered by  the stabbing of three young girls  in Southport, northwest England, earlier in the week. The far right has seized on and spread a wave of disinformation, including false claims the attacker was an immigrant, to mobilize anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant protests. Police say the suspect was born in Britain. Footage geolocated by CNN shows protesters on Sunday vandalizing and setting ablaze two Holiday Inns in northern England: one in Tamworth, which had previously been criticized by a local politician for housing asylum seekers, and another in Rotherham. In Tamworth, protesters threw projectiles, smashed windows, and started fires, injuring one police officer, according to local authorities.
