"Legendary Nigerian Football Coach, Festus Onigbinde, Passes Away at 88"

Former Super Eagles coach, High Chief Festus Adegboye Onigbinde, has passed away at the age of 88. He was a revered figure in Nigerian football, known for his discipline, tactical acumen, and commitment to youth development. Onigbinde made history as the first indigenous Nigerian coach to lead the Super Eagles to the FIFA World Cup in 2002. He also guided the team to the Africa Cup of Nations final in 1984 and led Shooting Stars Sports Club to the African Cup of Champions Clubs final in the same year.  President Bola Tinubu and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have paid tribute to Onigbinde, praising his contributions to Nigerian football. The NFF described him as a "dedicated servant of the game" whose impact went beyond Nigeria.  Onigbinde's legacy extends to his work as a technical instructor for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA, helping to train coaches across Africa and beyond.
