The late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South Senatorial District, has been laid to rest in his hometown of Otolo Nnewi in Anambra State. Ubah, re-elected to the 10th Senate under the Young Progressives Party, died in London on July 27. Sharing photos from the funeral, Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, paid tribute, saying, “Today, I was in Nnewi to pay my last respect to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. “He was more than a senator. He was a younger brother and a friend, always brimming with life and enthusiasm. “His untimely departure serves as a powerful reminder of life’s fleeting nature. “May his gentle soul rest in peace.” The funeral drew numerous dignitaries, including the Labour Party presidential candidate; Peter Obi; Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia North; former Senate President Bukola Saraki; and Senator Victor Umeh of Anambra Central, among others. Soldiers Assault Civilian for 'Overtaking' Vehicle as Acting COAS Launches Investigation.

A viral video circulating on social media has depicted a senior army officer and two soldiers brutalising a man in the Abuja metropolis. The army personnel identified as a Major General and his escorts, were seen assaulting the man for ‘overtaking’ their vehicle. According to the 1: 57 minutes video seen by Channels Television, the man was seen groaning in pain and saying “How did I pass your car! How did I pass your car! Oh My God!”, while being brutalised by the soldiers. Despite the pain, the soldiers did not hold back on inflicting more beating on the man, as the woman was heard shouting in the background, “He is not feeling fine! He’s not feeling fine! Jesus, Jesus, Jesus!” The army personnel also attacked the female passenger for recording the encounter.  “Give me the phone! The Federal Government has lifted all bans on the posting of members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, creating the way for corps members to be deployed to private sector organisations. A memo from the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, said the new directive will take effect with the commencement of the 2024 Batch ‘C Orientation Course. Olawande said the policy shift is part of President Bola Tinubu’s broader strategy to combat rising youth unemployment by ensuring government agencies align with his administration’s vision. Recall that the previous posting policy implemented during the tenure of former Minister of Youth Development, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, restricted corps members to four sectors—education, agriculture, health, and infrastructure. The previous policy was designed to prevent private companies from exploiting cheap labour while promoting public sector capacity-building. Protests have erupted in Abuja as residents took to the streets of Wuse Zone 5, blocking roads around Mobassa Street with burning tyres. According to a local resident, the demonstration followed a security raid targeting drug dealers in the area, which reportedly left one person severely injured. “The security agents conducted a raid, and during the operation, there was a gunshot ,” the resident stated, noting that an individual appeared to have been shot during the incident. According to ICIR, the area, described by the resident as a hotspot for drug-related activities, has reportedly drawn numerous patrons over time. “That’s a notorious place for all kinds of drugs, and lots of people patronise them ,” the resident added In response to the incident, protesters lit bonfires with tyres, barricading the streets in a bold display of defiance.

Court sacks MC Oluomo as NURTW President, affirms Baruwa.

The Abuja Division of the Appeal Court has sacked Musiliu Akinsanya popularly known as MC Oluomo from the position of the National President of the National Union of Roads Transport Workers, NURTW. The court also affirmed Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as the authentic President of NURTW. The court also affirmed the judgment of the Industrial Court delivered on the 11th of March 2024 in respect of Suit No. NICN/ABJ/263/2023. The court held that the appeal filed by Najeem Usman Yasin, Tajudeen Agbede and others challenging the decision of the Industrial Court that recognised Baruwa as President lacked merits and therefore dismissed it. In a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgement with Appeal No. CA/ABJ//CV/293/2024 delivered on Friday, by a three-member panel; Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba and Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi said Baruwa is the legally elected President of NURTW.
