Nigerian security forces have rescued 308 people who were abducted and held captive for several months in forests across Kwara and Niger states, in what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described as the country’s largest same-day rescue operation.
The victims were rescued during a major security operation targeting criminal groups operating around the Kainji Lake forest area. According to reports, 163 of those rescued were abducted from the Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State in February. Another 145 victims were reportedly kidnapped from communities in Niger State.

The victims had allegedly spent about six months in captivity, enduring difficult conditions in the vast forest around Kainji Lake.
