COOKING GAS PRICE CRASH".
Lagos, Nigeria — Relief for millions of Nigerian households! Cooking gas marketers have cut depot prices again, triggering a price war that could push retail costs down nationwide.
*New Depot Prices Announced*
*Dangote marketers* are now selling Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) at *N985/kg* — making them the cheapest in the depot market. eef8
That’s N45/kg lower than the average depot price of N1,030/kg and N65/kg below the highest price of N1,050/kg. eef8
Other major depots are also cutting rates to compete:
- NIPCO Lagos: N1,025/kg
- Techno Oil Lagos: N1,025/kg
- Rain Oil Lagos: N1,015/kg
- Matrix Warri: N1,030/kg
- Some depots as low as: N980/kg 93f6
Lagos is currently recording the cheapest rates, with *Techno Oil at N1,095/kg*. 994b
Why Prices Are Dropping
Industry players say it’s due to:
1. Increased supply — More LPG cargoes flooding coastal depots
2. Competition— Dangote Refinery-led marketers forcing rivals to cut rates
3. FX stability — Naira stability helping landing costs
4. Local production — Nigeria now produces ∼87% of LPG demand locally 994beef8f051
Dangote Refinery had earlier slashed LPG by N170/kg from N1,400 to N1,230, and in another cut went as low as N760/kg.
Experts predict these lower depot prices will *filter through to retail, easing costs for households. eef8
NALPGAM says if supply and competition continue, prices could crash further to N900 - N1,100/kg by end of 2026.
Some retailers have already dropped from N2,300/kg last week to *N1,500 - N1,600/kg
Current retail estimates per kg: N1,080
- 5kg: N5,400
- 12.5kg: N13,500
Just weeks ago, prices hit N2,200/kg during supply shortages. The crash from N2,000+ to below N1,100/kg is a major win for consumers battling inflation.
The Federal Government is also pushing reforms to boost domestic LPG supply and stabilize prices long-term.
