METRO: Police Arrests Suspected Kidnapper After Collecting Ransom at POS .
In a dramatic turn of events, local police successfully apprehended a suspected kidnapper at a Point-of-Sale (POS) centre, where the individual was believed to have collected ransom money from the distressed family of a victim.
The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Mohammed Moda from Burtu village, Ringim Local Government Area, over alleged threats to kidnap two individuals. was arrested on June 26, 2024, following an intensive investigation led by police . The police had been tracking the activities o Mohammed Moda who was allegedly involved in a kidnapping operation targeting local residents.
According to the police report, the suspect had demanded a substantial ransom from the victim’s family, instructing them to transfer the money via a POS transaction to avoid detection. Unbeknownst to the suspect, the police had put the family under protective surveillance and coordinated with them to track the financial transaction.
At around 3 PM, the suspect arrived at the designated POS centre to collect the cash. Plainclothes officers, who had positioned themselves strategically around the vicinity, observed the transaction and moved in swiftly once the suspect took possession of the funds.
The successful operation underscores the importance of collaboration between the community and law enforcement agencies.The command’s spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, stated this in a statement issued commended the quick-thinking actions of the victim’s family and praised the officers involved for their dedication and meticulous planning.

Mohammed Moda is currently in police custody and expected to be charged with multiple offenses including kidnapping and extortion. The victim, whose identity has been kept confidential for security reasons, is reported to be safe and reunited with their family.
