Minimum wage: Labour rejects governors’ attempt to take over negotiationsl
THE Nigeria Labour Congres (NLC) has rejected the attempt by Nigerian governors to take over the lingering minimum wage negotiations. The workers union rejected the suggestion by governors that they should be permitted to determine the wages of their workers , saying it is not only oppressive but against the idea of the minimum wage. In a statement released on Thursday, June 29, following their meeting in the capital of Ogun State, Abeokuta, the Southern Governors Forum argued that each state should be free to bargain over how much it could pay The Forum maintained that each state should be able to negotiate its minimum wage and that it should be commensurate with the cost of living.
