NIGERIAN MILITARY PLANE CRASH: FAMILIES DEMAND ANSWERS AS QUESTIONS MOUNT.
By Desmond
Families of victims killed in the tragic Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State are demanding answers as uncertainty continues to surround the circumstances of the disaster.
The crash, which occurred on October 5, 2026, claimed the lives of all 25 people aboard the aircraft, including 19 military personnel and six civilians, according to a Reuters report published on October 16.
The aircraft was reportedly travelling from Benin City to Lagos on a routine mission when it lost radar contact and crashed in a remote, swampy area of southwestern Nigeria.
President Bola Tinubu ordered an investigation into the tragedy. However, grieving relatives say they are still waiting for clear information about the cause of the crash, the recovery of victims' remains and the progress of the investigation.
Among those mourning is Victor Anii, whose sister, Esther Anii, served as a sergeant in the Nigerian Air Force.
Reports indicate that the family only confirmed her death after the Air Force released the list of people aboard the aircraft.
Other relatives have also expressed frustration over what they describe as inadequate communication from the authorities during this difficult period.
The tragedy has renewed concerns about military aviation safety, aircraft maintenance and accountability in Nigeria.
Lawmakers have also called for further investigations into the crash and a comprehensive review of military aircraft maintenance systems.
Although the Nigerian Air Force has said recovery operations have been intensified and support promised to affected families, questions remain unanswered.
The exact cause of the crash has not yet been established in the cited reports. The outcome of the investigation is expected to provide more clarity about what happened and whether any safety failures contributed to the disaster.
For the affected families, however, the priority remains obtaining answers, recovering their loved ones and ensuring that such a tragedy does not happen again.

MY VIEW
The families deserve answers, not silence. The government must ensure a transparent investigation, provide regular updates and take concrete steps to prevent future tragedies. Every life lost deserves accountability.
