BREAKING: Tinubu Gives Security Chiefs Tough Order, Demands Rescue of All Kidnap Victims.
By Desmond
President Bola Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security chiefs to intensify operations against terrorists and bandits, rescue all abducted persons and dismantle criminal camps across the country.
The directive was disclosed by the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), following a security meeting presided over by the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to reports published on Friday, October 16, 2026, the meeting focused on Nigeria’s security challenges and preparations for the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
The President reportedly instructed security agencies to make the rescue of kidnapped victims a priority and ensure that criminal groups no longer have safe havens from which to operate.
Musa told journalists that the President wanted security operatives to work together to locate and rescue Nigerians being held captive by terrorists, bandits and kidnappers.
The directive comes amid continuing concerns over kidnapping, banditry and attacks on communities in different parts of the country.
For many Nigerian families, kidnapping has become a source of fear, with victims sometimes held for extended periods while their relatives face demands for ransom.
The government’s latest directive is expected to increase pressure on the military, police and other security agencies to demonstrate measurable progress in tackling these crimes.
The Defence Minister also said the government was taking steps to strengthen the operational capacity of security agencies, including the acquisition of additional aircraft and helicopters to support security operations.
Beyond tackling insecurity, the President reportedly directed security agencies to provide a safe environment for voters during the 2027 general elections.
The minister assured Nigerians that security personnel would be expected to act professionally and remain neutral during the electoral process.
However, the effectiveness of the latest directive will ultimately depend on its implementation, adequate intelligence gathering, cooperation among security agencies and the protection of vulnerable communities.
Nigerians will be watching closely to see whether the renewed orders lead to the rescue of captives, the disruption of criminal networks and a significant reduction in attacks.
Giving orders is important, but Nigerians need to see concrete results. Families whose loved ones have been kidnapped deserve more than promises; they deserve urgent action and the safe return of their relatives. Security agencies must work with reliable intelligence, respond quickly to threats and hold criminals accountable. The government should also ensure that communities receive lasting protection rather than temporary relief after attacks have occurred.
