BREAKING: Enugu Police Arrest 30-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Murder of Girlfriend, Body Found in Apartment Toilet

By Desmond

ENUGU, Nigeria — The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, identified as Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel, over the alleged murder of his girlfriend, identified simply as Chinyere, in a disturbing incident that has shocked residents of the state.

According to the police, the incident occurred at Olympic Layout, One-Day area of Enugu, where the suspect allegedly killed the woman and concealed her remains inside the toilet of his apartment.

In a press release dated September 22, 2026, the police spokesperson, Superintendent Daniel Ndukwe, said the suspect was arrested on September 21 following information that he had allegedly murdered his girlfriend.

How the Incident Happened

Preliminary police investigations indicated that the alleged killing occurred on September 19, following an argument between the suspect and the deceased.

The police said the suspect allegedly struck the woman on the head with a pestle during the dispute, resulting in her death.

After the incident, he allegedly wrapped her remains in nylon and concealed them inside the toilet of his apartment.

According to the police statement, the offensive smell from the decomposing remains attracted the attention of neighbours, who reportedly forced the door open and apprehended the suspect before police operatives arrived.

The suspect was reportedly rescued from an angry mob before officers attached to the Awkunanaw Division took him into custody.

Alleged Argument Over HIV Infection

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the alleged crime, according to the police.

Investigators said he claimed that the incident followed an argument over allegations concerning who had infected the other with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

However, the circumstances surrounding the dispute and the allegations about HIV infection remain matters for investigation. The claims have not been independently established.

The police said the victim's remains were evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Efforts were also being made to identify and notify her relatives.

Police Begin Investigation

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reportedly directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

The police command said the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The commissioner also urged members of the public, particularly young women, to exercise caution when visiting people and to inform trusted relatives or friends about their movements.

The case has drawn attention to the dangers of domestic and intimate-partner violence and the importance of resolving relationship disputes without resorting to violence.

In my own view,No argument or relationship dispute is worth a human life. If these allegations are proven, it will be another heartbreaking reminder that love should never turn into violence. When anger takes control, lives can be destroyed, and families are left with wounds that may never heal. Justice must prevail!
