Attack NDC Secretariat in Edo, Concerns Grow Over Political Violence
Suspected Thugs
By Desmond
Suspected thugs have reportedly attacked the secretariat of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, raising fresh concerns about political violence and the safety of party members.
Reports published on October 15, 2026, stated that the incident was captured in a video circulating online, showing damage at the party's secretariat.
The attack has sparked concerns among political observers and party supporters, particularly amid growing calls for peaceful political engagement and respect for democratic institutions.
In the footage, a woman reportedly accused members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of being responsible for the attack. However, the allegation has not been independently verified, and no definitive conclusion can be drawn about the identities or political affiliations of the suspected attackers.
As of the time of reporting, further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident, the extent of the damage, and whether any arrests have been made remain unclear.
The incident also comes amid reports of an attack on an NDC campaign office in Enugu State, where a party member was reportedly shot and later died. The circumstances of the Enugu incident are separate and should not be confused with the reported attack in Edo.
Political violence remains a serious concern because attacks on party offices can undermine freedom of association and the ability of political groups to operate peacefully.
Security agencies are expected to investigate such incidents, establish the facts, and bring anyone found responsible to justice.
My View
Political disagreements should never turn into violence. Security agencies must investigate the reported attack and ensure that those responsible are held accountable, regardless of their political affiliations.
