Faith Alayande was reportedly pursuing her legal education when the unfortunate incident occurred. Her death has sparked concern among students and members of the wider community, particularly over the safety of student accommodation and the measures in place to prevent accidents around hostel buildings.

At the time of reporting, details surrounding the circumstances of the fall remain limited. It is therefore important to avoid speculation about whether the incident was accidental or deliberate until the appropriate authorities establish what happened.

For me, the most disturbing part of this tragedy is that a young person who had her future ahead of her is no longer alive. Law students go through demanding academic programmes, and they deserve an environment where their phynd emotional wellbeing are taken seriously.

The school authorities should ensure that the circumstances surrounding Faith's death are properly investigated. If any safety concerns existed around the hostel rooftop, they should be identified and urgently addressed. Railings, restricted access to dangerous areas, surveillance and other appropriate safety measures should never be treated as optional where students live.

There is also a need to pay greater attention to the mental and emotional wellbeing of students. Academic pressure, financial difficulties, personal struggles and other challenges can affect young people in ways that may not always be obvious. Schools should therefore make counselling and other support services accessible to students who need them.

Faith Alayande's death should not become just another tragic headline that disappears from public attention after a few days. Her family deserves answers, her friends deserve support, and the institution has a responsibility to learn from the incident.

Whatever the final findings may be, one thing is clear: a young life has been lost, and the circumstances surrounding that loss deserve seriousness, compassion and transparency.
