Nigeria's Super Falcons Book WAFCON 2026 Quarter-Final Spot With 6-2 Thumping Of Egypt

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after recording an emphatic 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final group stage match.

The 9-time African champions put up a dominant display to finish top of their group and send a strong warning to other teams in the tournament.

From the first whistle, the Falcons played with confidence and attacking intent. Rasheedat Ajibade opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a well-taken strike before Asisat Oshoala doubled the lead 10 minutes later. Egypt pulled one back to make it 2-1, but the Super Falcons responded immediately.

Uchenna Kanu added the third before halftime to give Nigeria a comfortable 3-1 lead at the break. 

The second half was more of the same. Michelle Alozie scored a brilliant goal in the 58th minute, followed by goals from Toni Payne and Esther Okoronkwo to make it 6-1. Egypt managed a late consolation to end the game 6-2.

Coach Justin Madugu praised his players for their performance and mentality. 

“We came into this game knowing what was at stake. The girls showed character and delivered when it mattered. Scoring six goals shows the quality we have in this team,” Madugu said.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade also spoke after the match and dedicated the win to Nigerians. 

“We are happy with the result but the job is not done yet. We want to win this trophy for Nigeria. Thank you to all the fans supporting us back home,” she said.

With this result, the Super Falcons have now scored 12 goals in 3 group games and conceded only 3. They finished top of Group B and will face the runner-up from Group A in the quarter-finals next week.

Fans across Nigeria have flooded social media to celebrate the big win. Many are confident that the team can go all the way and win a record 10th WAFCON title.

The NFF has also commended the team, promising full support as they progress to the knockout stage.

All eyes will now be on the Super Falcons as they prepare for the quarter-final clash. If they maintain this form, another WAFCON trophy could be heading to Nigeria.

This is a boast to the players cos they suffered defeat on their first match against Malawi.
