Indomitable Lionesses Make History in Rabat.
RABAT, Morocco — August 17, 2026
Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses have made history after winning their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, defeating Malawi 3–0 in a commanding final in Rabat, Morocco.
Marie Ngah was the star of the night, scoring twice, while Naomi Ndjoah Eto added another goal as Cameroon produced a dominant first-half display to secure the continental crown.
The victory ends a long wait for Cameroon, who had previously lost three WAFCON finals — in 2004, 2014 and 2016 — all against Nigeria. The triumph also makes Cameroon only the fourth nation to win the women’s continental championship, joining Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa.
Cameroon’s historic campaign was particularly remarkable because the team initially failed to qualify for the tournament and returned after WAFCON was expanded from 12 to 16 teams.

The Lionesses then defeated 10-time champions Nigeria in the quarter-finals before overcoming hosts Morocco on penalties in the semi-final.
In the final, Cameroon wasted little time asserting its dominance. Ngah opened the scoring before Eto doubled the advantage, with Ngah completing her brace before half-time.
