BREAKING: South African World Cup Star Jayden Adams Dies At 25
Johannesburg, South Africa — Tragedy has struck South African football. Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams has died at the age of 25, just weeks after representing his country at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The news was announced on Saturday by South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie.
Adams played all three of South Africa’s group-stage matches at the 2026 World Cup. He started against Mexico and Czech Republic, and came off the bench in the 1-0 win over South Korea that took Bafana Bafana to the Round of 32 for the first time ever.
His cause of death has not been officially confirmed.
According to BBC reports, police in Schotsche Kloof, Cape Town found the body of a 25-year-old man at a house and an investigation has been opened.
Minister McKenzie said:
_"It is with profound shock and a heavy heart that I have learnt of the passing of Jayden Adams... South African football has lost one of its brightest young talents"
Jayden Adams Career.
1. Club: Started at Stellenbosch FC academy in 2020. Scored 8 goals in 6 seasons and made 109 appearances. Joined Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025.
2. Achievements: Helped Sundowns win the 2025-26 CAF Champions League. Also helped South Africa finish 3rd at AFCON 2023.
3. International: Made Bafana Bafana debut in 2022 vs Mozambique. Won 13 caps and scored 2 goals, both in 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Even the England vs Norway World Cup quarterfinal held a moment of silence for Adams.
Adams was just 25 with so much more to give. He had reposted a photo with his girlfriend Aqueelah less than a day before the news broke.
The South African Football Players Union called him _"a proud servant of the game and a young life that still had so much to offer".
